A typical weekday in a mixed-floor house might look like this. Carpet in the hall, vinyl in the kitchen, a doormat that never quite dries, and a second wave of grit after the school run.

What changes in the weekday, if the dock is doing the emptying
On paper, the 405 Combo is meant to run while people are out or after the house is quiet. iRobot’s UK specification says ClearView LiDAR can map more than one floor, clean in rows, and keep working in the dark. The robot can vacuum, mop, do both, or vacuum first and mop second. Pads are described as lifting on carpets so the wet plate does not drag across the hall runner.
The practical shift is not a dramatic “set and forget forever”. Water tanks still need rinsing, and iRobot still asks for basic brush and filter care. What drops out of the typical evening is the bit that makes people put the stick back under the stairs un-emptied: opening a dirty cup over the bin, then wringing a mop pad in the sink.
According to the manufacturer, the AutoWash dock holds debris for up to 75 days of auto-emptying and supports about four weeks of mopping and pad washing (iRobot’s note: based on one mopping run a week). Pads are washed during mopping and dried afterwards. A self-cleaning cycle flushes the dock. Those are iRobot’s figures, not a test run by Afif Studio.
A typical-day close, not a personal verdict
In a house like the one sketched above, the weekday might end with shoes on the rack and the robot already back in the dock, rather than with a stick vacuum still standing in the kitchen. Whether that is worth the price is a decision for the buyer and for iRobot UK Ltd’s checkout — this page does not sell the machine.
